The 8 Step Formula For Picking A Lucrative High Ticket Medical Niche To Target
.
In all my years of consulting and coaching other consultants, there is probably nothing more stressful or confusing for a marketing consultant than picking a niche.
We all know the reasons why we as consultants don’t want to pick a niche…
– “I really CAN help ANY small business. After all, who doesn’t need a website?”
– “I can’t afford to miss out on any potential deal. I’m struggling as it is.”
– “What if I pick a niche that’s a dud. Then I’ve done all that work for nothing.”
– And the list goes on and on.
Plus when you add the high stakes and high ticket nature of consulting in the medical niche, picking that one niche becomes even more stressful.
That’s why I’ve taken the time to create a system for quickly testing the viability of a niche in a day or two so that I don’t waste thousands of dollars, months of time and a ton of resources.
But before I reveal my system, let me be clear about what it will take to use this niche selection system to find a good niche:
– You’re going to have to invest several hours to do some research into several possible niches.
– You’ll have to build 3-6 squeeze pages and thank-you pages.
– You’ll have to invest $75-$150 over the course of two weeks.
– You’re going to have to create 3-5 one page cheatsheet lead magnets
– You’re going to have to write 3 emails.
So in short, the system works but it will require you to do some work to find a niche.
But by using this system, you will have one, two or even three great medical niches where you can consistently get clients from.
So let’s get into the system:
Step #1: Completely embrace and immerse yourself in the mentality that you’re just testing out a few niches and it’s probably not a long-term thing.
Now I realize that may come across a bit nonchalant, but the number one reason that most consultants don’t pick a niche is because they approach it with a “until death do us part” mentality.
That’s way too much pressure and committment right out of the gate.
When you’re first starting out with choosing a medical niche to target, you must approach it with a testers mentality. After all, at this point, you don’t know what’s going to work.
To try and pick the perfect niche in one shot is crazy and super risky.
Therefore you need to approach your niche selection with a bit of a standoffish approach so that you don’t get emotionally tied up with a niche until you see that it’s viable.
Alright, now that you’ve put a bit of distance between your emotions and the niches you’re about to research, let’s go to the next step.
Step #2: Choose any three medical niches from the list below to investigate and test in your local area.
Yes, just pick three of these niches at random.
It doesn’t matter which three because we’re just going to see what’s out there in your local area for these three niches.
– General Dentists
– Cosmetic Dentists
– Pediatric Dentists
– Ophthalmologists
– Optometrists
– Dermatologists
– Cosmetic Surgeons
– Wellness Physician
– Anti-Aging Clinic
– Medical Weight Loss
– Weight Loss Clinics
– Chiropractors
Don’t overthink it.
Just pick 3 to investigate online over the next few minutes.
Notice that I didn’t say pick three to go out and build a massive website, write books, record 50 youtube video’s, join associations etc.
All you’re doing is picking 3 to do some google searches on to see if there is something there worth pursuing.
Step #3: Open up Google, Yahoo or Bing or whatever search engine you use and do some looking around to see what’s out there.
When you search online, your first step is to make sure there’s enough prospects in your local area to give you a sufficient prospect pool to draw from.
The size of the target market for the purpose of testing should be at least 100+ targeted prospects in your local target market for each of the 3 niches you’re investigating.
Obviously if and when you roll out a full fledged marketing campaign, you’re going to want to target thousands, but for the purpose of testing we need a smaller sample size.
You find the amount of medical niche prospects in your area by using three online sources;
Source #1: Doctor.webmd.com
Source #2: Healthgrades.com
Source #3: Linkedin.com
Using these three sources will guarantee that you get a fairly accurate view of the size of the potential target market.
Step #4: Find five niche-specific Facebook & Linkedin groups, forums and industry websites for each of the three niches.
Your goal is to find doctors in the industry talking online about their marketing related problems in their own words so that you can quickly build a swipefile of marketing/business topics.
As you browse through the groups and webpages, copy and down around a dozen of the key phrases and marketing related problems that doctors in the niche talk about.
Later on this will allow you to quickly write high converting copy for the niche viability test you’re going to run.
Step #5: Create a simple one-page cheatsheet lead magnet for each of the three niches you’re investigating.
These one page cheatsheets are super easy to create and are viewed as valuable to doctors as they don’t take a lot of time to consume, but still give high quality content.
The key to easily creating one-page cheatsheet lead magnets is to take 7-10 marketing related solutions and summarize the strategy of each in a 2-3 sentence paragraph to present the doctor to the solution without going into long detail.
Also, you should invest $15 and get a ecover created for each of your lead magnets or create a professional ecover yourself.
Step #6: Setup a problem/solution focused landing page that offers your cheatsheet lead magnet.
When it comes to creating high converting squeeze pages quickly, it’s hard to find better solutions than LeadPages, Optimizepress or Instabuilder.
Those 3 software solutions come with hundreds of pre-done squeeze page templates that just require 5-10 minutes to customize and setup, so getting squeeze pages setup shouldn’t be a real issue for you.
Just pick one, then pick a template and customize it using the marketing related problems you uncovered during your research.
If you want to use your own domain, then buy a general medical niche related domain name like…
– MedicalMarketingSolutions.com
– PracticeMarketingSource.com
– MedicalPracticeMarketing.com
Step #7: Write one welcome email to business owners that opt-in and reuse it for each of the 3 niches you’re testing.
This welcome email is a basic “thank you for signing up and here’s a link to your cheatsheet” email and could include a introduction about who you are and what you do.
Once you have written one thank you email, you can simply repurpose it for all the other lead magnet autoresponder campaigns you’ll set up.
However, if you have a bit more time and want to take it up another notch, I’d strongly recommend writing 5-7 informative emails and making a offer for a strategy session in the final 3-4 emails.
However, that’s a option and is not necessary to test the viability of a niche.
Step #8: Setup a $5 per day Facebook ad campaign to see which niche is most responsive to your marketing message.
While walking you through a complete Facebook ad campaign setup tutorial is outside the scope of the topic here, I will give you some rules to follow.
Rule #1: Start with a small $5-$10 a day for a 5 day campaign for each niche specific lead magnet.
Rule #2: Target doctors based on their title (chiropractor, dentist etc.), but also target based on the associations, groups and websites they tend to be members of.
Rule #3: The image should be a picture of the ecover and the headline of the lead magnet in big text.
The key to setting up successful Facebook ad campaigns will always be based on targeting the right audience, a compelling image and persuasive copy.
Now let’s be clear about this niche selection process that I’ve just walked you through:
– You’re going to have to do some work to create three one-page cheatsheets, squeeze pages, thank you emails and facebook ads.
– You’re going to have real data to guide your decision in picking one niche to focus on exclusively but I suggest focusing on 3 tightly related and tested niches to crush it right out of the gate.
However, once you commit to this process, you’ll notice that it’s going to be more fun because you’re not super-stressed out trying to pick the perfect niche and have your entire income hinge on that niche.
This is why consultants like myself are now able to test our way to success in multiple niches without risking our entire consulting business on a risky gamble.
